Class 5 2023/2024

Year 5 Reading Passport

20 BOOKS TO READ

Over the summer, each class teacher has been compiling a list of 20 books to read by the end of the year. These books are a mix of different texts, authors and text types. These can be read by the children, or read to them depending on your child's reading stage.

Children will be coming home with their own reading passport. This will show the 20 books for your child to read by the end of their class year. Over the year, the children will have the opportunity to read these books at home, and then you can sign the passport when the books have been read at home. All of the books that are on the passport are available from each class reading area, though you may have some copies at home.

After a book has been read and signed by an adult, a stamp or a sticker will be added to the passport in class to show that that book has been read. Once your child has read all of their books for the year, they will receive a certificate, a prize and their name will go onto our school Wall of Fame display.

We hope that this will help to encourage the children of St Joseph's to develop their love of reading for pleasure, and to help them to find new authors, text types and books that will spark their interest.

Happy Reading!

This afternoon children have found their inner artist. They were asked to recreate ‘The Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh. The children certainly were very creative and produced some amazing paintings.

Spring Term 2 - What we have been up to so far....

The children have all enjoyed World Book Day again, and it has been great to see the effort put in once again to their costumes!

Some photos from today… the children did a fantastic job with their liturgy! Thank you to all of you who joined us and your support at home practising lines etc, and well done to the children.

The children have worked well together doing practical maths activities relating to multiplication, and they have also been working hard on their times tables using TT Rockstars.

Some recent photos of some of our activities. Firstly, a Commando Joe mission transporting ‘water’ across the desert.

Well done Year 5! You really impressed the Doncaster Council recycling team with your engagement and responses to their questions.

The children did a fantastic job in their Commando Joe mission this week, creating challenges for each other to complete and enduring groups had to work together closely to complete these!

The children did a great job in their geography work earlier in the week - using different scales to calculate distances between place.

Well done to our reader who have read at least 5 times in the last week!

Congratulations to all the children who achieved 10/10 on their spellings this week!

For the children’s fourth Commando Joe mission, the children considered the next part of Nellie Bly’s journey, heading to Paris. They worked together well to build a free-standing tower to represent the Eiffel Tower.

The children have been enjoying their music lessons - singing songs, clapping rhythms and beats and adding actions to the songs they have been learning.

Well done to the children who have read at least 5 times either this week or last week! An absolute amazing effort!
