Our School Definition of Geography:
Geography tells us more about our planet and the world we live in
In Geography, Year 1 looked at a map of Rossington. They learnt that symbols on maps represent different features. Using a key, they identified and found the different features on a map from the list they were given.
In geography, Year 3 were used atlases. They located different places around the world before focusing on different rainforests and where these are located. The children were also able to use the information from the atlas to find facts about the different types of rainforests.
In Geography, Year 4 have been learning about lines of longitude and latitude and the hemispheres on earth as well as how they impact climate zones.
Year 5 have been learning about the 5 major latitudinal lines around the world: Arctic Circle, Antarctic Circle, Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn and the Equator. Year 5 located them on the Earth, described whether they had a hot or cold climate and gave information about the amount of daylight they had. They then went on to explore the 6 major biomes of the world: desert, grassland, temperate forest, rainforest, taiga and tundra. They examined what a biome is and located each on a map, stating a few facts about each particular biome.
Year 6 began their new topic, Ernest Shackleton and Antarctica, by using Atlases to examine the location of Antarctica.
