English Writing

Our high-quality writing curriculum provides our children with vocabulary-rich learning and exposes them to a wealth of different authors and styles. We want to inspire every pupil at our school to use words to tell their own stories, express their uniqueness and individuality and stand up for rights and opinions of others.

A passion for writing is encouraged through exposing our children to a wide variety of genres and focusing on the audience and purpose of each text. Our approach allows our children to practise their written skills, develop their own voice and be inspired by the words of others.

Year 5 Desert Survival Instructions 🐪 🌵 🏜️

In English, Year 5 have been writing a set of instructions to help people survive in the desert. Children's writing is based on the class Reciprocal Reading book, Holes. 🦎 Here is a selection of some of their super Big Writes! ✍️

Year 6 - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Year 6 children are building up to writing a story inspired by The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Here are some examples of paragraphs focused on using adverbs and adverbial phrases and using dashes to join two main clauses. Keep up the hard work, Year 6!

We practise our writing skills in all areas of the curriculum. For example, Year 5 have learnt all about mining in their local area, such as the names of pit villages in Doncaster and the jobs people had during Victorian mining. They have produced some beautiful writing that showcases their mining knowledge.

In English, Year 3 are beginning their topic on biographies. The children were able to create mini-biographies of each other by asking and answering questions.
